My Obsession with High Waisted Retro Panties - Part Two

Back in February 2015 I wrote a post called "My Obsession with High Waisted Retro Panties". It featured some favorites available online. I realized that some of these are no longer available and of course now there are many new things I have discovered, so I though it was time for an update to this post with. Part Two. Plus I went back to the original post and updated some of the links.

Also, I am finally starting to make my own underwear! I am working with a few different options to make my version of the perfect fit. And it is inspiring me to consider adding this to my Fox & Doll line soon.

Made by me this week.

Still a favorite for the classic high waisted full coverage pantie is What Katie Did. Also I love that they call them knickers!

Rago is a US made classic since 1945! This whole life is my go-to for classic and affordable shape-wear. These are true vintage cuts that are made to last. A tip to you if you order  - size up.

Um pockets in my underwear? Yes Please!!! I found these searching on Amazon and few years back, ordered right away, and they are classic perfection.

For something really special from France check out Fifi Chachnil, who I recently learned about from Gertie of Charm Patterns.

Another I just discovered from Gertie's presentation on lingerie is Carine Gilson. Do check out all her lovely pieces, beautifully handcrafted in Brussels.

Ohhh Lulu Lingerie and Apparel on Etsy is inspiring to make some underwear with velvets.

I found Madalynne on CreativeBug, with a great tutorial on sewing underwear. I love the pieces in her shop, especially this particular pair. And if you want to learn to make your own look her up on CreativeBug or check out her kits that she sells here. Plus she has a whole supplies section! Anyone want to get me a gift certificate??? Hint Hint...

Speaking of kits and supplies check out Porcelynne.com, run by my friend Jen who I used to be part of a co-op with here in San Francisco. She has an online shop dedicated to lingerie supplies and kits.

Hope this post is helpful for anyone looking for something cute and new to add to your vintage inspired lingerie or looking for inspiration to make your own.

Take note that I do not own items from each of these makers, only a few. But I sure would like to.

Update! I added the leopard print to my shop! Available in all sizes here.

My Obsession with High Waisted Retro Panties

I love high waisted retro style panties. They are the perfect combo of comfortable and cute! Here are a few brands I covet and think would make a great gifts, wink wink hint hint. I see no shame in purchasing yourself a special Valentine's Day gift, so go for it!

I could picture wearing these perfectly classic panties from Egretta Garzetta everyday.

Twin Syndrome makes super comfortable and cute underwear. Yes these panties are VERY high waisted, but if you live in a cold climate I promise you will thank me because they cover that area at the top of your pants where the cold air gets in! Plus check out her perfectly retro High-Rise Bathing Suit Bottoms.
update Twin Syndrome shop doesn't seem to have these anymore, but has cute swim bottoms.

I own these happy floral cuties from Knickerocker, one of my favorite pairs of underwear ever!

Italian cashmere! The pieces from Econica are handmade in Canada and are so perfect for chilly winter. I'm going to make sure these get on my holiday wish list for next year.

The pieces and sets from What Katie Did are so perfectly retro, plus you can get yourself a perfectly fit Bullet Bra to match! On a side note, I do own a version of this bra and I absolutely adore it.

This pretty pink stretch velvet set from Danielle Wood would be a perfect Valentine's Day gift. P.S. I did the makeup and hair in this beautiful image of Shelbie Dimond taken by Joshua Cobos, and I have been coveting these pieces ever since.

And if you are a super lingerie lover looking for more recommendations check out The Lingerie Addict. You can even search her blog by 'high waisted' to see past posts about pieces you are sure to fall in love with.

Finger Saved by Ring

It is true. One of my rings has saved a finger from being mangled. Kevin bought a ring from me in 1998 and had not taken it off since, that's 13 years! It has been so cool to see how the ring has worn over the years. We run into each other about once a year or so in the neighborhood and he always shows me the current state of the ring. What was once a concave textured surface slowly became convex, it has been fascinating to see this change over time.

The piece that saved Kevin's finger and the replacement

But recently Kevin contacted me because he was in need of a replacement ring, the original was crushed beyond repair. Someone had shut a car door with his hand in it, but luckily the ring on his pinkie finger was the first thing the door hit. Wow, it bent nearly in half and snapped. Not only was he lucky the ring was there but also that it opened up on the seam, from close inspection it seems this was likely the solder seam. Because it opened up he was able to have friends pry it off without having to rush to the emergency room. Wow what a story! I am proud to have contributed to saving Kevin's finger, and that he came right back for a replacement.

My Mission Neighborhood Studio

I went to some of the Mission Open Studios last weekend here in my neighborhood in San Francisco. I was totally inspired by some of the amazing workspaces I saw, along with the art of course. It made me a bit nostalgic for my old Yosemite Street Studio, a huge industrial space I shared with artist April Higashi and Deborah Boskin for many years. But then I came back to my lovely studio and was reminded how much I adore my current workspace. So just wanted to share a few images of my studio.
